| 2 | Acceptance Test-Driven Development (ATDD) | A method of defining and creating acceptance tests prior to delivery that emphasizes collaborative development of acceptance test criteria. |

| 4 | Active Listening | A communication technique in which an individual pays close attention to the verbal communication from stakeholders. By listening carefully, analyzing the content, and clarifying the underlying meanings, active listening will enhance communication and reduce ambiguity. |
| 5 | Activity | A basic unit of work in project planning that serves as the basis for scheduling, resource planning, and budgeting. For example, an enterprise risk management team in a company provide their expertise across a range of projects in a PMO. This apportioned effort is proportionally distributed across the projects in the PMO. The contrasting to apportioned effort is discreet effort. In program management or portfolio management, this is the management process of formally approving components within a program or portfolio. |

| 34 | Backlog Refinement | The progressive and continuous effort of keeping the backlog updated, organized, and clean. The process typically starts at the end of one sprint to make sure the backlog is ready for the next sprint. Formerly known as backlog grooming. |

The calculation of late start dates and late finish dates for the “schedule activities” portions that are typically in a critical path method. This is determined by calculating the scheduled end date of the project and working backward through the schedule model. Also see Forward Pass. |
| 36 | Balanced Scorecard | A system of reporting key performance indicators (KPIs) for a project, program, or portfolio. The goal is to provide a comprehensive picture of the underlying endeavor by selecting a few KPIs that are the most impactful or informative. |

An economic ratio used to summarize the overall relationship between the relative costs versus benefits of projects, programs, or portfolios. BCR of greater than 1 indicates the net positive benefit. Also see Internal Rate of Return, Net Present Value, and Payback Period. |
| 41 | Benefits Analysis and Planning | A benefit management stage that includes activities to create and establish the program benefits management plan, framework, and metrics. | 88 | Colocation (colo) | A locational strategy which emphasizes placing team members in the same or nearby physical location for the benefit of enhanced communication, improved working relationships, and increased benefits. |

A typical curve starts with an initial shock and surprise by the change that deteriorates into a low point of despair before climbing upward toward rationalization and (hopefully) acceptance and commitment. |

| 103 | Context Diagram | A visual representation of product scope depicting a system within the business and its interactions with people, related processes, and other systems. |
